Home for At-Risk Pregnant Women Opened in FDB

In the photo above, a woman stands in front of her bedroom at Kay Fanm Ansent, a home for at-risk pregnant women that St. Boniface opened in Fond des Blancs, Haiti. Doctors select and suggest women to stay at Kay Fanm Ansent if they anticipate complications in the birthing process or if the women live significant distances from the hospital.

Dr. Samuel Bernard, Coordinator for the UNICEF Maternal and Child Health Program, says the facility is valuable in many respects: It enables doctors to keep a close eye on patients; it allows St. Boniface to provide quality care leading up to delivery; and it reduces the risk of complications for women who have to travel long distances to deliver at the hospital.
