W.K. Kellogg Foundation Awards HEI/SBH Major Grant

We are thrilled to announce The W.K. Kellogg Foundation has awarded us a generous $500,000 grant to improve maternal and child health in southern Haiti. This grant will provide major support for the first full year of operations for SBH’s newly opened Maternal and Neonatal Health Center in Fond des Blancs, Haiti. With Kellogg’s support, HEI/SBH will increase access to maternal and neonatal health services in an under-served area, providing neonatal intensive care, labor/delivery, post-partum, obstetrics/gynecology services, and training for doctors, nurses, and staff to enhance quality of care.

SBH helps to fill capacity gaps in the Haitian Ministry of Health’s health care system. This grant builds on Kellogg’s previous support of HEI/SBH to deliver high quality health services to mothers and their children in the south of Haiti. Haiti has some of the highest rates of child mortality in the world, with 80 and 76 deaths per 1,000 live births in the South and Southeast Departments, respectively. This is HEI/SBH’s fourth grant from Kellogg; the Foundation provided major support for the construction of the Maternal and Neonatal Health Center, which opened in March 2015.
